Overview of Professional Activities

I was a bicycling researcher at the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center from 1992-1999. While there I performed and assisted on several noteworthy projects, among others.

I was an author of the National Bicycling and Walking Study and a key member of developing the FHWA’s bicycling and walking research plan.

Bicycle Crash Types: A 1990’s Informational Guide was a large collision study commissioned by the FHWA. Bill Hunter was the principal investigator and Carol Tan was the FHWA contractor, but I conceptualized and was the main creator of the document.

Pedestrian Crash Types: A 1990’s Informational Guide was a similar document that I also largely produced.

Trail Intersection Design Handbook, Designing Trail Termini, and Evaluation of the Shared Use Arrow are research based monographs that I produced for the Florida Department of Transportation.
